My name is Stephen Hunsaker. I teach at the Logan Institute of Religion for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have been teaching for over 26 years.
       My wife, Michelle, and I are the parents of ten children. Besides being with my family, there is no other place I would rather be than in the classroom teaching and learning the gospel of Jesus Christ with Saints of any age.
       I created this website to be able to share with my students the concepts and principles from lessons I have taught in Institute class, parenting and family conferences, youth conferences, firesides, EFY, and BYU Education Week.
       My hope is that this information can be a resource to anyone who is trying to become more "vertically connected" in any facet of their lives by learning how to better build on the sure foundation of Christ and the doctrines and principles of His gospel.

Prayer
"And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee . . ."
Exodus 25:22

Prayer is not meant to be like walking up to the counter at a fast food restaurant
and placing our order. It is not just designed for us to ask for things we want,
even if we are willing to “pay” whatever price to get them.
Prayer is about talking with God, not to Him.
It is about communing with Him. Communing comes from the same Latin
root word as communion, which mean to share thoughts and feelings, and communication, which means conversation that goes back and forth.
In our prayers, do we share our thoughts and feelings and then wait for Him to share His? Does the conversation go back and forth? Do we kneel before God to learn from Him as much as we kneel to ask things of Him? I know that often I have found myself talking most of the time I am praying, filling up an "appropriate" amount of time with my words. That’s what I thought I was supposed to do. But if you think about it, what happens when we sit down with someone and do all the talking? What do we learn? How much of a relationship is built?
What if in our prayers we were to only do half the talking?
What if more of our time in prayer was spent in silence . . . listening.
What kind of revelation would begin to flow?
And how would it change our prayers?
